Frequently Asked Questions
How do you choose make-up for your skin type?
Choosing make-up suited to your skin type helps achieve a more natural, comfortable and long-lasting finish throughout the day. Beyond finding the right shade, the texture and formula play an essential role.
- For dry skin, choose creamy or liquid textures that provide comfort and suppleness without emphasising dry patches. A formula enriched with hydrating ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, also helps maintain the skin’s moisture.
- For oily skin, opt for lightweight formulas made with non-comedogenic ingredients that allow the skin to breathe. For a natural finish, apply a light layer of powder foundation mainly to the centre of the face, where excess shine tends to appear.
- For combination or sensitive skin, adapt the textures to the needs of each area: mattify the T-zone where needed while maintaining comfort on the cheeks.
Choose gentle formulas and make-up with built-in sun protection to help protect your skin every day. At Aime, the Makeup Care collection has been designed for all skin types. Our formulas combine make-up and skincare to deliver a second-skin finish, without highlighting dry areas or small imperfections. Thanks to their skincare ingredients (prebiotics, hyaluronic acid, mineral filters…), they reveal a naturally radiant complexion while caring for your skin day after day.
How do you find your perfect foundation shade and undertone?
To choose the foundation best suited to your skin tone, we recommend matching it to the colour of your skin along the jawline, rather than the back of your hand, which is often darker.
Finding your perfect shade also means identifying your skin’s undertone. There are four main undertone categories:
- Cool undertone: the skin has pink, red or bluish hues. Foundations with rosy undertones are generally the most suitable.
- Warm undertone: the skin has yellow, golden or peachy hues. Shades with warm undertones naturally enhance the complexion's radiance.
- Neutral undertone: the skin has a balance of cool and warm tones. Neutral shades generally adapt easily to this type of complexion.
- Olive undertone: often overlooked, it is characterised by greenish, ashy or slightly grey tones. Common among Mediterranean, Indian and mixed skin tones, it can also occur in very fair skin. Traditional foundations may sometimes appear too orange or too pink on olive undertones.
There are several ways to identify your undertone. Look at your veins in natural daylight: blue or purple veins generally indicate a cool undertone, green veins a warm undertone, while a mix of colours may suggest a neutral or olive undertone. Your skin’s reaction to the sun can also provide a clue: skin that burns easily often has a cool undertone, while skin that tans quickly with a golden glow is more likely to have a warm undertone.
With their flexible shades, designed to suit a wide range of skin tones, Aime Powder Foundation SPF and The Complexion Stick provide buildable coverage with a natural second-skin finish, for an even complexion without a mask-like effect. As facial skin is never completely uniform, our shades can also be mixed to create a bespoke complexion.
How can you achieve a natural make-up look?
A natural make-up look starts with choosing the right textures and applying them in light layers to preserve the skin’s natural appearance. The goal is not to cover the complexion, but to even it out, blur small imperfections and enhance the skin’s natural radiance.
For a second-skin finish, choose lightweight, buildable formulas that blend seamlessly into the skin. Start by evening out the complexion with a suitable texture, then apply additional product only where needed.
The Aime Makeup Care routine has been designed to create a fresh, harmonious complexion every day:
- The Powder Foundation SPF is applied with a brush to naturally even out the complexion thanks to its buildable coverage. Its blurring and luminous veil leaves a natural second-skin finish without looking heavy.
- The Complexion Stick helps target specific areas that need extra coverage, such as dark circles or small imperfections, while maintaining a natural finish.
- The Cream Blush adds a fresh touch of colour to the cheeks and lips, instantly reviving the complexion.
- The Tubing Mascara enhances the eyes naturally while caring for the lashes.
How should you prepare your skin before applying make-up?
Well-prepared skin is the first step towards achieving radiant, natural-looking, long-lasting make-up. By providing your skin with the hydration and comfort it needs, make-up blends more easily and delivers a smoother, more even finish without emphasising dry patches.
Your skin preparation should be tailored to your skin type. A complete skincare routine creates a supple, hydrated base that is ideal before applying make-up:
- Cleanse your face with a suitable cleanser to remove impurities, excess sebum and residue from the skin’s surface.
- Spritz on a refreshing facial mist to awaken the complexion and prepare the skin to absorb the active ingredients in the products that follow.
- Apply a serum to provide targeted hydration and improve skin comfort, followed by a moisturiser if your skin needs extra hydration.
- Finish with SPF sun protection, an essential step every morning. You can then apply a make-up primer if needed to extend wear or further smooth the skin’s texture.
In the evening, gentle make-up removal is essential to maintain the skin’s natural balance. Double cleansing effectively removes make-up, sunscreen and impurities accumulated throughout the day, allowing the skin to breathe and helping maximise the benefits of your skincare routine.
How do you apply make-up for a natural-looking finish?
To achieve a natural-looking make-up finish, the application is just as important as choosing the right textures. The aim is to blend the product evenly while allowing the skin to remain visible, creating a naturally even complexion.
Before applying your Powder Foundation SPF, start by preparing your skin with a suitable hydrating skincare routine. Your skin should be dry and comfortable before application so that the powder blends seamlessly without emphasising dry areas.
Use the Aime Powder Brush to pick up the product and distribute it evenly across the face. Thanks to its soft bristles and dense, rounded shape, it ensures a light, buildable application. Apply using circular motions, starting from the centre of the face and blending outwards. Build coverage gradually until you achieve your desired finish, for a natural result without a heavy make-up effect.
For extra precision, use The Complexion Stick together with the Concealer Brush to target areas that need more coverage, such as dark circles or small imperfections.
Finally, use the Hybrid Brush to seamlessly blend cream or powder textures, especially on the cheeks and lips, for a smooth, natural finish without harsh lines.
The secret to a second-skin make-up look? Apply only a small amount of product, build up textures gradually and let your skin’s natural radiance shine through.
How should you clean your make-up brushes?
Cleaning your make-up brushes regularly is essential to maintain the quality of your application and prevent the build-up of make-up residue, sebum and bacteria. Clean brushes also ensure better product distribution and a more even finish on the skin.
To clean your brushes, simply use lukewarm water and a mild soap. Work the soap into a lather in the palm of your hand, then gently clean the bristles using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, then carefully remove any excess water with a clean towel or paper towel.
Leave your brush to air dry, always lying flat, to prevent water from seeping into the handle and damaging the glue that holds the bristles in place.
To keep your brushes clean and protect your skin, we recommend washing them every seven to ten days. Regular cleaning helps limit the build-up of bacteria and reduces the risk of minor blemishes caused by poorly maintained make-up tools.
Well-maintained brushes also help ensure more precise make-up application, a more even finish and a naturally flawless result.
