Can you introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Emma and I'm a photographer and beauty blogger. I grew up in Paris but now live in London.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Creative, curious and loving.
What makes you feel like a woman?
Spending time with myself, taking care of myself and my skin.
What does a day in your life look like?
In the morning, I cleanse my skin, use a softening essence, then serums with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, followed by SPF50 (even in winter, yes!). In the evening, I double cleanse, use salicylic acid to gently exfoliate, and then a nourishing oil – I love rosehip. I love taking care of my skin, as it's always a treat and a great way to prepare or relax after a day.
What are you most proud of?
Last year I bought my house, and I realized I had managed to make my business work to make it possible. It was surreal and I loved renovating it (you can see more on @theflatupstairs_ ).
An anecdote from your life that helped you move forward?
I always wanted to be a magazine editor and wrote for many magazines, but I never got the job I wanted.
At the time, I was so sad and thought there was something wrong with me, but looking back, I realize that the reason I didn't get that job was because I was meant to run my own business, and I'm so happy doing it. I work as a photographer and content creator, and I also run my creative program How to by Emma.
What is your relationship with your body and mind?
For me, the two are almost the same thing. I used to have a very difficult relationship with my body, but as I got older and worked on my mind, I realized that it was the bad thoughts I thought I had to listen to that were preventing me from enjoying my beautiful body. Now, I love it so much and I exercise to feel good and alive. I take the time to really be present in my mind and my body—even if it's just applying body oil, I remind myself that it's a wonderful instrument.
If you had to keep only one beauty product in your vanity case? (cream, serum, oil, eye cream, etc.)
A nourishing serum, these are the most pleasant to apply.
Your favorite Aime product and why?
The flagship supplements (French Glow, Pure Glow and Balance & Glow)! I've been taking them for so many years, I can't imagine my day without them.
Do you have any reading recommendations?
I just finished reading Circe by Madeline Miller, it was such a wonderful read - I've never read anything like it. It's about the Greek gods, but it's kind of like they're in a soap opera ????
What is your guilty pleasure?
Binge-watching a series. Recently, I watched the entire series White Lotus in one day—it was definitely worth it. That's what rainy Sundays are for!
What is your Proust madeleine?
I think it's the Diptyque jasmine candle because it's my mom's favorite and it reminds me of our apartment in Paris when I was little. It totally transports me.
What would you say to yourself from 20 years ago?
You can't imagine everything you'll accomplish. Always trust your intuition.
What is your mantra?
“Just do it.” We often put things off until it’s the “perfect” time to do it. But the reality is, there’s never a perfect time. So start today, perfect tomorrow.
Your plans for the future?
Right now, I'm very happy with my job. Launching my mentoring program, How to by Emma, last year was very satisfying, and I've just launched the new website (howtobyemma.com). I love helping others develop their creativity and realize that yes, they too can be accomplished creatives. That's my goal for the next two years. I also dream of buying a house in the south of France soon.
